AISI 8620 Steel is known as case hardening steel and has low alloy nickel, chromium, molybdenum, generally supplied in as rolled condition with a maximum hardness HB 255max. 8620 round bars have good internal strength and high external strength, which makes it highly wear resistant. SAE 8620 steel round bars have a higher core strength than other grades like 8615 and 8617. 8620 alloy steel round bars are flexible during hardening treatment which enables improvement of case/core properties. Pre hardened and tempered (uncarburized) 8620 alloy steel can be further surface hardened by nitriding but it will not respond satisfactorily to induction hardening because of its low carbon content. Alloy Steel 8620 round bars are suited for applications which require a combination of toughness and wear resistance. This grade is commonly supplied in round bar.
